Working at Renatus

Renatus is a small, specialist manufacturing company based in Bideford, originally established in 2001 to provide services to pipe and electronic church organ builders. As our company has grown so has our reputation and we now work with designers and clients from other areas of business, such as museums and visitor centres.

We aim to provide our services based on the same values that have secured our reputation in the organ building business; to offer a combination of traditional skills and service, along with innovative ideas and techniques. We use modern CAD and manufacturing technology to improve the design, planning, production and finish of the work we undertake.

Our workshop is equipped with both traditional machinery and modern CNC machines, including CNC routing, laser cutting, engraving and turning. Our electronics and assembly workshops include PCB design and low volume board assembly, wiring, fitting out and testing of systems. Our control systems are installed in church organs throughout the UK and abroad.

We are a small, friendly, tight-knit, and very 'hands-on' team; the current average length of service of our 10 employees is 19 years so we're generally in it for the long-haul. We enjoy what we do (at least most of the time) and take pride in creating things that others will get pleasure from for many years. All our work is bespoke, much of it being designed and engineered in-house. It's rare to spend any two days doing the same thing and we relish coming up against new challenges and learning new skills.

Apprenticeships at Renatus

Renatus has employed a number of apprentices over the years, many of whom have gone on to become valued long-term members of our team. Click the photos below to see what two of our apprentices are doing now.

Current Vacancies

Assembly & Service Technician. April 2023.

We are currently seeking someone to join us as a trainee assembly, wiring and servicing technician.

Work would include assembly of components and consoles for church organs and control systems. Including making up of sub-assemblies and wiring harnesses; some light PCB assembly; assembly, coding and configuring of systems in consoles and pipe organs; working with audio; testing and fault finding. There is potential to be involved in design and development of new products and services.

Many of our products work with software systems and so the successful candidate would be expected to have a good level of PC skills. Audio engineering and musical / keyboard skills would also be advantageous as would a basic level of electrical / electronic knowledge. On the job training in using our CAD systems and operating equipment such as our CNC router and laser would be provided.

Our products are installed all over the country and exported to many other parts of the world. This position will be based in our Bideford workshop but a willingness to travel and work on site would be essential and a current driving licence advantageous.

We encourage applicants looking for an apprenticeship or moving on from further/higher education and seeking an interesting career in which they can develop their skills. An experienced candidate who can 'hit the ground running' would also be considered.

Salary will be competitive and commensurate with previous experience. Overtime is often available and sometimes actively encouraged!

This is intended to be a permanent full time position (subject to an initial trial period), working 40 hours per week with a flexible holiday package and company pension scheme. We generally work 08:00 to 16:30 five days a week but are willing to be flexible about working arrangements where practical.

If you're interested in joining us then please write to Colin Peacock, including your CV and information on any experience you think may be relevant to the position.
